But seriously- our week in review
Mono
Mononucleosis
Bad, bad, bad sickness
That has been our life. I know last I blogged I said how B had a high fever and was miserable... well, it got worse. On Tuesday night he spiked a 104.5. I talked to the pediatrician and they wanted us to wait a day before coming in. This made me uncomfortable- but I went with it since tylenol/motrin were working to keep it down. Then when I went to put him down for bed on Wednesday he was at 104.7. At that point, I had had it with the 'wait and see' approach that the dr was taking. I let him sleep for an hour so the meds could kick in and he wouldn't be completely miserable, then bundled him up and went to CHOP- children's hospital of PA. Eric was at the hockey game so was not able to be there when all this went down- he was heading over to meet us.
CHOP is amazing- seriously, a gorgeous, gorgeous hospital. I hope to never see it again, but having such a great place less than 3 miles away. They checked him out and said he had a raging throat infection- puss and all. Did a repeat strep swab and that was negative- so the diagnosis- viral, and mono. They are 95% sure it is mono based on his throat, fever, and symptoms. This could have been confirmed with a blood test but the dr. seemed to think there was no point in performing one since by the time the results came back, his fever should have broken and he'd be on the mend.
Good news- mono is milder the younger you are. When we hear mono we think month long bouts of lying in bed and no activity. For a toddler- it is a week of a really bad bad cold (which is what we have been living) and then maybe another week of tiredness before back to normal. So we are on the mend now. He has been fever free for a day and slept through the night, hopefully the kid gets some relief. To top it all off, he got 2 canines and a molar sometime during this- my guess is it was a good thing it was piled on so as not to extend his misery.
Here our pictures from our week- you will notice a recurring theme of Pajamas, sweats, or nudey baby. Also an alternation between play and misery. Poor munchkin
Getting sick? Can't keep his head up at dinner.
Enjoying all the Christmas packages that keep arriving
Sicky Baby
Doesn't stop him from loving my shoes though- seriously, he could walk in these all day
A bunch of medicines, a 3 hr nap, and losing his clothes to cool off helped cheer him up.
Miserable... just not feeling good
Hmmm... if it wasn't mono, I would think his notorious trash picking would have a part in getting sick
When you are stuck inside & sick- things get boring fast. What better way to switch it up than to play with household items like measuring cups and dog-poop bags
More misery
Half smiles- best mood we had all week
This kid takes no interest in cartoons- but if Daddy puts on ESPN he is entranced
